BFS + Chill = Happiness
Since 1995, the Chill progam has been introducing underserved Burlington youth to the joys of snowboarding. And not just Burlington youth, but youth across North America (and even across the pond in Austria and Australia).
And in 2010, Burlington Freestyle plans to offer underserved Burlington youth a next step in their riding experience with scholarship-based freestyle coaching, competition, and mentoring.
It's a match made in heaven.
This past Spring, BFS founders Zach Hoag and Deane Calcagni approached Chill with the prospect of supporting a next-step kind of program - a program that built on the strong foundation that Chill had created. What if Chill kids could continue their riding experience beyond the 6 weeks of beginner lessons? What if stand-out Chill participants could be rewarded with a fully-scholarshiped opportunity to ride the next season and receive coaching in the park? What if Chill kids could have a chance at not only learning to snowboard but becoming competitive snowboarders? What if a Chiill kid made it to the Olympics someday, or into the pages of Transworld?
Chill responded with a huge amout of excitement and support, and Chill's National Coordinator Megan Skiles even joined the BFS board!
And so, something beautiful was born - a partnership between Burlington's most generous learn-to-snowboard cause and a new keep-em-snowboarding cause called Burlington Freestyle. Sky's the limit when such incredible ideas come together - BFS + Chill, forever!
